I got the recipe for this delicious apple crisp at Deardorff's Orchards and Winery in Waconia, Minnesota.
I didn't take step by step photos this time. I will the next time I make it. But I wanted to get the recipe out to you right away because I loved it so much.
Ingredients:
Filling
6-8 tart apples (I use Haralson) peeled, cored and sliced (about 2 pounds)
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Topping:
1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter
1 cup flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
optional: 1/2 tsp vanilla (I used)
1/4 tsp ground coriander (I didn't use because it may be the one spice I don't have in
my kitchen).
Instructions:
1. Lightly butter 9x13 inch pan (I like a glass pan) (use unsalted butter for this).
2. Mix all topping ingredients together and set aside.
3. stir apple slices and cinnamon and sugar mixture.
4. Fill pan with apples and sugar mixture.
5. Cover with topping mixture.
6. Bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes.
7. Lower temperature to 350 and bate for 15 to 20 minutes. Topping should be browned and apples bubbling.

I'm afraid....very afraid of this recipe....4 pieces huh? Well, I'm was going to make apple pie this evening, but I think I will make this instead. 4 pieces.....
ReplyDeleteVerdict - delicious! I used the coriander but I don't think it would make a big difference either way.
ReplyDeleteSo how big are you cutting your pieces for an 8x12? If I only cut 1 piece, then it's only 1 piece right? No matter how big....
I've been making a (very) similar version of this recipe since Grace was a baby. This fall I suggested that since our family now consisted of only two members, not five, perhaps I should make half a batch. That idea was vetoed, and the 9 x 13 pan was devoured in 24 hours. Yup. Cooking for an empty nest definitely has a learning curve.
ReplyDeleteDelicious! I might make a 1/2 version of it since it's just my son and I that will enjoy it, and he's 6, and I don't need to eat 4 pieces ;-) Yummy!
